Shri Triloki Nath Pandey was born on 22 December 1945 in Ballia district, Uttar Pradesh. Some public biographical accounts mention Dayachapra village in the Bairiya area of Ballia as his place of origin.. He was born into an agrarian family and was the eldest among four children. His father is publicly recorded as Late Shri Aaskrit Pandey and his mother as Late Smt. Reshma Devi.
He is reported to have pursued studies in Hindi literature and completed a Bachelor of Education degree, reflecting an early orientation toward learning and public service before his full-time involvement in organizational work.
During his youth, he became associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, where he participated in social and organizational activities. His commitment to public service later led him to become a full-time worker (Pracharak) of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, an organization engaged in religious, cultural, and social initiatives across India.Over several decades, he worked extensively in Uttar Pradesh and contributed to numerous religious and community-oriented programmes.
The Ram Janmabhoomi movement emerged prominently during the 1980s as a nationwide campaign seeking the construction of a temple at the site traditionally revered by millions of Hindus as the birthplace of Lord Shri Ram. His association with public work dated back several decades: he joined the RSS in 1964, was appointed district pracharak of Ballia in 1975, and came to Ayodhya in 1983. In 1984, he became associated with VHP work in eastern Uttar Pradesh, and by 1989 he was closely involved with the legal and organizational efforts connected to the Ram Janmabhoomi case.
The original suit on behalf of Shri Ram Lalla Virajman was instituted on 1 July 1989 in the Faizabad court by retired judge Justice Deoki Nandan Agarwala, who acted as the deity’s first Next Friend. After Justice Agarwala’s death on 8 April 2002, Professor Thakur Prasad Verma of Banaras Hindu University took over the responsibility. In 2008, citing old age and ill health, Professor Verma stepped aside from the role, after which Shri Triloki Nath Pandey became the third Next Friend of Shri Ram Lalla Virajman.
Shri Triloki Nath Pandey's contribution to the Ram Janmabhoomi movement was distinctive because it was rooted in constitutional processes and judicial proceedings. His role demonstrated how deeply held religious beliefs could be represented through established legal institutions. Although he rarely sought public recognition, history remembers him as the individual who represented Shri Ram Lalla Virajman during the final and decisive phase of one of independent India's most significant constitutional and civil cases. His service remains an important chapter in the legal history of the Ram Janmabhoomi litigation.
